European Citizenship Follow-up Seminar

IMG_0954In 2005-2006, the Partnership organised 12 training Modules on European Citizenship, which were attended by 300 youth workers and youth leaders.

These Modules were a very useful experience for most participants: they supported their professional development and encouraged them to integrate elements of European Citizenship in their daily projects and practice.

In order to build on the experience gained in the Modules, the Partnership and some Youth in Action National Agencies decided to organise a “European Citizenship Follow-up Seminar” attended by 25 participants (including team members).

The Seminar, which was co-organised and hosted by the National Agency of Luxembourg, took place on 15/17 November 2007.

Main outputs and results

A publication gathering some key characteristics of youth work projects on European Citizenship, based on the concrete experience of participants on implementing projects on European Citizenship, will be issued after the Seminar. The publication is called “What could European Citizenship in youth work look like?”

It can be a useful resource document for all youth workers and leaders interested in implementing projects on European Citizenship.

The Seminar in Luxembourg also supported the idea of creating an informal network of active multipliers on European Citizenship amongst former Modules and Training Courses participants. This idea was implemented in spring 2008 through the creation of an Internet platform.

Conclusions

IMG_1038The positive experience of this Follow-up Seminar will be taken into account in the ''evaluation and development meeting'' on European Citizenship in February 2008. The conclusions and recommendations of the Follow-up Seminar will also influence the setting-up of a mentoring and support strategy for former participants.

The success of this seminar will probably lead the stakeholders to organise annual Follow-up Seminars after each series of training courses on European Citizenship, in order to maximise their impact. The next such Follow-up Seminar could take place in early 2009.
