Training Courses on European Citizenship (2004-2005)

SEMINAR ON EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP
11-15 May 2005, Warsaw

The T-Kit Seminar was developed within the framework of the 4th Covenant on Training between the Council of Europe and the European Commission. The event was organized by the Partnership Secretariat and the Polish National Agency and it took place in Warsaw from 11th till 15th May 2005. It was one of the events accompanying the Council of Europe Summit which took place in Warsaw, May 15-16th.

The main theme of this Seminar was the European Citizenship and its main aim was to promote the concept and the T-Kit 7 as well as to promote the Partnership of the Council of Europe and the European Commission. The educational objectives of the Seminar are:

  • to make participants understand the basic concept of European Citizenship, to be able to discuss and present ideas concerning the topic
  • to be able to incorporate European Citizenship concept into their multiplying activities they run with young people and youth workers, and to be able to use T-Kit 7 as a tool for European Citizenship Education
  • to enable multipliers (participants) to plan and help other young workers plan young projects with the theme European Citizenship
  • to learn about the Partnership of the Council of Europe and the European Commission and its publication policy

The participants were the youth workers actively involved in the Youth Programme of the EC and the programmes of the CoE, who implemented multiplying activities in the last 2 years. They were over 18 years old and were able to work in English. In total we were ready to invite 24 to 30 participants ensuring a balance in geographical, gender and institutional terms.

The aim of the training modules is to support the professional development of youth workers and youth leaders by extending their competencies to integrate elements of European citizenship within their projects and practice and support their role as multipliers with young people.

Objectives of the training modules

  • To provide participants with knowledge and information about the historical role and present function of European institutions and the concepts and formal meanings and expressions of European citizenship.
  • To enable participants to reflect about European citizenship and European identity and key values and concepts associated with it, such as human rights, democracy and respect for cultural diversity.
  • To develop participants’ knowledge and motivation to critically understand the European youth programmes and their potential to support the awareness of European citizenship among young people, through youth work.
